Many opportunities have arisen in Trinidad over the years and many "ministry
experiments" have been performed. Now is the time to take a reading
with our Trinidad counterparts and make plans together that will make the
most of the momentum generated by the new King's Kids school
and the goodwill generated in so many partners
in the States.
Trinidad '08 from January 9th to the 16th will be a fact-finding/strategic focusing trip that will take leaders from the USA and pair them with Trini counterparts for the purpose of developing a calendar of events to strengthen the future leaders and evangelists of Trinidad and to provide mobilizing/discipleship opportunities for our teammates.
What we strive to create in January is a multi-year calendar that will bless Trinidad and provide a broad range of ministry opportunities for the churches we know in the USA.
While waiting to see how God leads our discussion, we are organizing our thoughts around four key ministry streams that we hope will grow as platforms for evangelism and discipleship.
These are areas that you are invited to join us in when our teams form for the summer of 2008...
MEDICAL CLINICS
PURPOSES:
Impact poor population with little access to
doctors, dentists and optometrists. Also creates
opportunities for evangelism at our intake/registration tables.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR THESE TEAMMATES::
Doctors, Nurses and healthcare professionals.
Also a GREAT opportunity for non-medical personnel
who act as receptionists, waiting room helpers, clerical and evangelism
volunteers. Men, Women, and early teens have all participated in these clinics.
PAST EVENTS:
Free blood pressure and diabetes screening with churches in Piparo, Moruga,
San Fernando, St Helena, Chaguanas, Todd's Road, Longdenville. Contact and
discussions with Doctors and administrators at Eric William's Medical Complex
and
Trinidad Medical College.
TEACHERS' TRAC
PURPOSES:
Help the administrator and staff at the King's Kids pre and primary school
staff to better teach and administrate the school and its work for Hindu
and Muslim children who are currently attending.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR THESE TEAMMATES:
Teachers , Administrators, Curriculum development professionals, Teaching
assistants and anyone who has a passion for kids and desire to model good
teaching techniques to the staff. Even Sunday school teachers
could add something to this track.
PAST EVENTS:
Building the King's Kids pre-school facilities on the House of God property
Summer 2005. Book drive in USA churches to build the library and stock the
school with supplies and teaching aids summer 2005. Literacy Faire and Open
House to introduce the Chaguanas neighborhood to the new school summer 2005.
Expansion of the building in January 2007 for Primary grades. Teacher consultation
and teacher volunteers in Trinidad July/August 2007.
BUSINESS-AS-MISSIONS
PURPOSES:
Many people in Trinidad have an entreprenurial spirit and use it to create
second jobs in which to support their families. By teaching these people
basic business skills (and integrating Christian principles into the workforce)
we hope to strengthen these families and equip them to be Christ-like influences
beyond the church walls.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR THESE TEAMMATES:
Businessmen and women who can teach in small-group or seminar settings.
Accountants and those with business planning skills are especially key to
teaching basic business tools and concepts. We are welcoming anyone who
can successfully transfer relavent business skills to people wanting to
improve their lives and support their families better. Micro-economic development
is also an
idea we can explore.
PAST EVENTS:
As ad-hoc projects within other ministry events, business leaders led business
teaching sessions at Men's and church leader meetings. Others helped to
set up a QuickBooks system for the King's Kids and still more built and
rebuilt the King's Kids computer lab.
MINISTRY EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT
PURPOSES:
The House of God Ministries has been asking for help in leadership development
for years. They want to emulate the better parts of the Adult Sunday school
models they have seen at churches in America. This track will partner with
HGM leaders for the purpose of developing Bible study skills, Small group
leadership development and Adult
Sunday school development.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR THESE TEAMMATES:
Anyone who has ever been in a small group or taught a Sunday school. This
is an especially good track for our ministry leaders (even pastors!) to
share their resources
and model the techniques and skills needed to
develop church leaders.
PAST EVENTS:
Church leadership consultation 2003. "Leadership Summit" 2004.
(The results of which was a transfer of skills and ideas that eventually
created an Adult Sunday school that
still meets at HGM.) Leadership Development Exchange in Green Bay, Wisconsin
August 2007.
